Chardonnay “Lara – Sunset Scent” 2018 Scarbolo
The Chardonnay “Lara – Sunset Scent” 2018 produced by Scarbolo is a refined interpretation of Chardonnay from the Friuli Venezia Giulia region of northeastern Italy. The winery is known for its commitment to expressing the character of individual vineyard sites through careful viticulture and precise winemaking.
The wine comes from the Lara cru, a vineyard located at approximately 60 meters above sea level, characterized by red clay soils that provide structure and depth to the wine. The vines have an average age of around 25 years and are cultivated with sustainable farming practices, producing grapes with excellent balance and aromatic intensity. Yields are maintained at about 70 hectoliters per hectare.
In the cellar, the winemaking process focuses on preserving the grape’s natural complexity. After pressing, fermentation takes place in small oak barrels, using selected cultured yeasts. No skin maceration is performed, while malolactic fermentation occurs partially, preserving freshness while adding texture and complexity.
The wine is then aged for six months on the lees in oak barrels, a technique that enhances aromatic complexity and gives the wine a richer, creamier mouthfeel.
In the glass, Chardonnay Lara 2018 displays a bright golden yellow color. The bouquet is expressive and elegant, with aromas of ripe banana and fresh grapefruit, complemented by subtle vanilla notes derived from oak aging.
On the palate the wine is rich and enveloping, supported by a balanced mineral backbone that brings freshness and precision. The finish is harmonious and persistent, with lingering fruity and lightly toasted nuances.
Production is intentionally limited to around 4,000 bottles per year, making this wine a small but distinctive expression of Friulian Chardonnay.
This wine pairs beautifully with seafood dishes, shellfish, creamy risottos and white meats, but can also be enjoyed on its own as a refined tasting wine.
