Canavese Nebbiolo “Le Forre” 2017 Marco Rossa
The Canavese Nebbiolo “Le Forre” 2017 by Marco Rossa is one of the most authentic and terroir-expressive interpretations of Nebbiolo from the Canavese area, a historic yet still underappreciated wine region in Piedmont. The Marco Rossa Winery, a small artisanal estate based in Borgomasino, works exclusively with estate-grown grapes, focusing on the unique identity of the morainic hills of the Ivrea amphitheatre.
The vineyards are located between Borgomasino and Maglione at 260–300 meters above sea level on morainic soils rich in stones and minerals. This geological composition gives the Nebbiolo its distinctive acidity, tension and savory character, key elements defining the wine’s personality. Vineyard management follows traditional practices with Guyot training and fully manual harvesting with careful grape selection.
In the cellar, 100% Nebbiolo grapes are vinified with great attention to preserve varietal purity. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel at controlled temperatures, followed by skin maceration to extract color, tannins and aromatic complexity. The wine is then aged for at least 12 months in oak barriques, which adds depth and structure while respecting the varietal character, before further refinement in bottle.
In the glass, it shows a refined ruby red color with garnet reflections, typical of Nebbiolo in evolution. The bouquet is elegant and layered, offering aromas of ripe cherry, raspberry, violet, dried rose petals and subtle spicy and oak notes. On the palate it is balanced and precise, with a solid yet refined structure, well-integrated tannins and vibrant freshness that enhances drinkability. The finish is long, harmonious and true to its aromatic profile.
“Le Forre” is a Nebbiolo that clearly expresses the connection between grape and territory, ideal with braised meats, game, roasts, mushrooms and aged cheeses.
