Barolo Pressenda 2016 Marziano Abbona
Barolo Pressenda by Marziano Abbona is a masterpiece originating from the spectacular vineyard overlooking the castle of Serralunga, in the municipality of Monforte d'Alba. With an average vine age of 42 years and a grape yield of 70 quintals per hectare, this Nebbiolo wine, born in 1998, promises a long evolution in the bottle.
The winemaking process is artisanal, involving destemming and crushing followed by skin maceration. Spontaneous alcoholic fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled steel tanks, followed by daily punch-downs. After submerged cap maceration, there is a dry racking, removal of lees, and transfer to barrels.
Spontaneous malolactic fermentation occurs during the submerged cap maceration. After a long period in barrels, the wine is blended, bottled, and rests at a constant temperature of 14°C before commercialization.
Barolo Pressenda is characterized by remarkable structure and drinkability, with scents of mint, violet, raspberry, and spices. It is solid and persistent on the palate, capable of withstanding time and suitable for pairing with significant dishes. With an intense ruby red color and garnet reflections, it reveals on the nose notes of ripe red fruit, violet, and toasted hints of coffee, tobacco, and licorice. The full-bodied and rich flavor profile is balanced by silky tannins. A vein of freshness foreshadows a very long evolution yet to be discovered.
Pressenda combines complexity and depth with a refreshing pleasantness, inheriting directly from the terroir its particular characteristics of body and density. This Barolo of power and substance stands out for finesse, elegance, and complexity, a nectar of Bacchus both enjoyable to drink and fascinating to savor.
