Barolo “Ornato” 2010 Pio Cesare
Barolo “Ornato” 2010 is among the most prestigious expressions from Pio Cesare, showcasing the unique strength and longevity of the Serralunga d’Alba terroir. The wine comes exclusively from the Ornato vineyard, the estate’s first recognized Cru and one of the most celebrated parcels in the Barolo region. Here, Nebbiolo thrives on marl-rich soils and perfectly exposed slopes, benefiting from a microclimate that promotes slow, even ripening.
First produced in 1985, Ornato was conceived to highlight the deeper, more austere soul of Nebbiolo from Serralunga. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel with a month-long maceration, essential for extracting tannins, structure and aromatic complexity. The wine is then aged for 30 months in large Slavonian oak casks, with a small portion refined in barrique to enhance finesse and spice.
In the glass, Barolo Ornato 2010 offers a brilliant garnet color with subtle orange highlights. The bouquet is layered and expressive: red berries, forest floor, licorice, cocoa, coffee and sweet spices, followed by mineral and balsamic notes. The palate is full-bodied, dense and authoritative, driven by refined tannins and vibrant acidity. The finish is long, deep and incredibly persistent, reflecting the greatness of Barolo wines built for long-term aging.
A true collector’s bottle and a perfect match for braised meats, game and refined cuisine.
