The Barolo DOCG 2022 by Francesco Rinaldi & Figli embodies the traditional philosophy of one of Piedmont's longest-established family wineries. Founded in 1870 in the village of Barolo, the estate has always embraced patient winemaking, allowing Nebbiolo to express its full character through time-honoured techniques and long maturation. This wine is produced from a blend of vineyards, a historic approach that creates balance and complexity while faithfully representing the identity of the Barolo appellation.
The grapes come from vineyards located in Barolo, La Morra and Castiglione Falletto, three of the denomination's most renowned communes. Sandy soils with sandstone in Barolo and Castiglione Falletto contribute elegance, aromatic precision and structure, while the clay-limestone soils of La Morra add depth, richness and harmony. Together, these terroirs create a Barolo that balances power with remarkable finesse.
Vinification follows classic Langhe tradition. Fermentation takes place in cement and temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with an extended 25 to 30-day skin maceration to gently extract tannins, colour and aromatic complexity. After blending the individual vineyard lots, the wine matures for approximately three years in large 5,000-litre Slavonian oak casks, followed by further bottle ageing that refines its texture while preserving freshness and longevity.
The wine displays a bright garnet red colour. The bouquet is complex, ethereal and layered, offering aromas of dried rose, violet, preserved cherry, red berries, liquorice, tobacco and sweet spices, enhanced by subtle balsamic notes. On the palate it is dry, savoury and structured, with finely woven tannins, vibrant acidity and a long, mineral finish that promises outstanding ageing potential.
The Barolo DOCG by Francesco Rinaldi & Figli pairs beautifully with braised beef, game, roast meats, white truffle, tajarin pasta, porcini mushrooms and aged cheeses. Best served at 16–18°C after decanting, it is a timeless expression of traditional Barolo, built to evolve gracefully for decades.
