Sassella Valtellina Superiore DOCG “Le Tense” 2017 Nino Negri

The Sassella Valtellina Superiore DOCG “Le Tense” 2017 is a signature wine from Nino Negri, showcasing the unique character of mountain-grown Nebbiolo (Chiavennasca) from the Sassella subzone.

“Le Tense” refers to old stone huts once used by vineyard workers during harvest. The grapes are sourced from steep, south-facing terraces between 300 and 450 meters above sea level. The poor, sandy soils and alpine microclimate contribute to the wine’s elegant structure and marked minerality.

The 2017 vintage was hot and dry, ensuring optimal ripening and excellent grape health. After a 12-month aging in French oak barriques, followed by bottle refinement, the wine reveals great complexity and balance.

It shows a brilliant ruby red color with garnet hints. The bouquet is layered with ripe red fruits, dried plum, sweet spices, balsamic notes and hints of licorice. On the palate, it’s dry, velvety and persistent, with fine tannins and a mineral, savory finish.

A perfect companion to roasted meats, game dishes and aged cheeses.
