Dessus 2018 Piantagrossa
The Dessus 2018 by Piantagrossa is a tribute to the dedication of the winemaker and the effort required to cultivate the steep terraces of Valle d’Aosta. “Dessus” (“above”) refers to the upper vineyards where Nebbiolo Picotendro climbs the morainic and sandy slopes, facing south in Pont-Saint-Martin and Donnas at 400-500 meters above sea level. Here, heroic viticulture and the traditional Pergola Valdostana allow a controlled yield of around 5000 kg per hectare and unique aromatic concentration.
Harvested in late October, only the best clusters are selected. Vinification occurs in stainless steel at 22°C with a long maceration of about 30 days, extracting noble tannins and complex aromas. The wine matures for 12 months in French and Austrian oak tonneaux, followed by another 12 months in bottle, enhancing elegance, depth, and complexity.
Dessus 2018 displays a light ruby red color with garnet reflections. The nose is intense and persistent, with red berries, cherry, nutmeg, cloves, and a touch of quinine. On the palate, it is elegant and harmonious, with integrated tannins, delicate spices, and a pleasant freshness leading to a long, refined finish.
Perfect with traditional Aosta Valley dishes like braised rabbit saddle, but also with delicate red meats or medium-aged cheeses. Serve at 17-18°C to fully appreciate its complexity and structure. The Dessus 2018 showcases the unique terroir of Valle d’Aosta and the skill of Piantagrossa winery, ideal for tasting moments or special occasions.
