Ruché di Castagnole Monferrato “L’Impronta” 2016 Montalbera
Ruché di Castagnole Monferrato “L’Impronta” 2016 by Montalbera is one of the most authentic and recognizable expressions of one of Piedmont’s rarest and most fascinating grape varieties: Ruché. This wine comes from the heart of the Monferrato area in Piedmont, a historic wine region that has been part of the UNESCO World Heritage landscape since 2014.
Azienda Agricola Montalbera is one of the leading wineries within the appellation. Founded at the beginning of the twentieth century and now run by the Morando family, the estate owns around 100 hectares of vineyards in a single body between Grana, Castagnole Monferrato and Montemagno, as well as additional vineyards in the nearby Langhe hills. Montalbera has played a crucial role in the modern revival of Ruché, owning nearly 60% of the vineyards of the entire denomination and actively promoting this native grape variety.
For many years Ruché was a nearly forgotten grape, cultivated on a limited scale and mostly consumed locally. Thanks to the dedication of wineries such as Montalbera, it is now considered one of the most distinctive and expressive red wines of Piedmont, appreciated for its aromatic intensity, elegance and drinkability.
Ruché di Castagnole Monferrato “L’Impronta” 2016 is produced from carefully selected grapes grown on the estate’s hillside vineyards. The calcareous-clay soils and the favorable microclimate of Monferrato allow the Ruché grape to develop a particularly rich and complex aromatic profile.
In the glass, the wine shows a deep ruby red color with garnet reflections, indicating balanced maturity. The nose is intense and expressive, revealing ripe red berries, cherry and blackberry, complemented by delicate floral hints and elegant spicy notes reminiscent of black pepper and oriental spices.
On the palate the wine is structured and refined, with a harmonious and persistent finish. The tannins are soft and well integrated, while the natural freshness of the grape variety brings balance and energy to the wine. The result is a red wine capable of combining aromatic depth with remarkable drinkability.
Thanks to its aromatic personality, Montalbera’s Ruché “L’Impronta” pairs beautifully with many dishes. It is particularly suitable with Italian cured meats, agnolotti pasta, roasted meats, braised dishes and aged cheeses, but also complements international cuisine featuring red meat and mild spices.
