Rossj-Bass 2021 Gaja
Rossj-Bass by Gaja is a dry white wine of remarkable elegance and complexity, showcasing Angelo Gaja’s visionary approach to incorporating international grape varieties into the Langhe terroir. First released in 1988, it is named after his daughter Rossana (“Rossj”) and the “Bass” vineyard where the grapes are grown.
The wine is made mostly from Chardonnay, with a touch of Sauvignon Blanc, both of which thrive in the cool, hilly landscapes of Piedmont. Fermented in stainless steel and briefly aged in oak, Rossj-Bass reveals a brilliant straw yellow color and a refined aromatic profile with notes of citrus, green apple, white flowers, aromatic herbs, and a delicate hint of minerality and vanilla.
On the palate, it is creamy yet vibrant, with elegant structure, crisp acidity, and a long, refreshing finish. This is a versatile wine: delightful in its youth, but also capable of developing further depth with a few years of bottle aging.
Rossj-Bass is a perfect expression of innovation and terroir, proving that Piedmont can produce world-class white wines with both character and finesse.
