Puligny-Montrachet 2014 Domaine Leflaive
The Puligny-Montrachet 2014 by Domaine Leflaive stands among the finest expressions of Chardonnay from Burgundy, combining purity, complexity and remarkable finesse. Sourced from seven distinct parcels across Puligny-Montrachet, totaling approximately 4.6 hectares, the wine reflects the diversity of clay-limestone soils and old vines planted between the 1950s and early 2000s.
Domaine Leflaive is globally recognized for its commitment to biodynamic viticulture, a philosophy that enhances terroir expression and vineyard vitality. Grapes are hand-harvested with strict sorting and careful monitoring of ripeness to ensure optimal balance and concentration.
In the cellar, winemaking follows a traditional Burgundian approach: long and gentle pneumatic pressing, natural settling, and fermentation in oak barrels, with around 18% new oak sourced from carefully selected forests. The wine is aged for 12 months in barrel, followed by 6 months in stainless steel, allowing for refinement and integration. Intervention is minimal, with only light fining and filtration if required.
In the glass, it shows a brilliant golden hue. The nose is complex and refined, offering ripe lemon, pear, white flowers, almond and subtle buttery notes, supported by a distinct mineral edge. On the palate, it is precise, layered and elegant, with vibrant acidity and a silky texture. The finish is long, saline and harmonious, with lingering citrus and toasted nuances.
The 2014 vintage, widely regarded as balanced and classic in Burgundy, delivers a wine that is already approachable yet offers excellent aging potential, evolving gracefully over the next 10 to 15 years. A must-have for lovers of great white Burgundy.
