Lessona 2017 Proprietà Sperino
Lessona DOC by Proprietà Sperino is a sophisticated red wine that captures the pure essence of Nebbiolo grown in the sandy, mineral-rich soils of Alto Piemonte. The estate, founded by Paolo De Marchi of Isole e Olena fame, has revived this historic denomination, bringing new life and prestige to the hills of Lessona in the Biella province.
Produced mostly from Nebbiolo, with a small touch of Vespolina in some vintages, the grapes are hand-harvested and fermented in open-top wooden vats with indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged for around 30 months in large oak casks, followed by further bottle aging before release. This meticulous process delivers a wine of great aromatic complexity and textural finesse.
In the glass, it shows a brilliant ruby hue. Aromas of violets, roses, red berries, and delicate spices emerge, along with a distinctive mineral backbone. On the palate, it is elegant, precise, and vibrant, supported by lively acidity and silky, well-integrated tannins. A wine of exceptional aging potential, Lessona is a remarkable expression of the region’s unique terroir.
Ideal with refined meat dishes or aged cheeses, this is a wine of true character and noble heritage.
