Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru 2013 Vincent Girardin
The Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru 2013 by Vincent Girardin is one of the finest expressions of Burgundy Chardonnay, produced from vines approximately 40 years old, planted in the prestigious Puligny-Montrachet vineyard, just above Le Montrachet. The terroir consists of Jurassic soils alternating marls, limestone, and stones, relatively shallow, giving the wine depth, elegance, and longevity.
Vinification is carefully handcrafted, with hand-picked grapes, slow pneumatic pressing, and alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in 228-liter French oak barrels, 15–20% new. Aging lasts 18 months on fine lees without stirring, maintaining harmony and finesse. Before bottling, the wines from different barrels are blended in stainless steel according to the lunar calendar, with light filtration.
The 2013 vintage offers a complex bouquet of butter, warm croissant, fern, dried fruits, spices, and honey, while the palate is velvety, elegant, and persistent, with structure and harmony perfectly balanced. This Grand Cru pairs beautifully with Bresse chicken with cream, sweetbreads with morels, truffled foie gras, aged cheeses like Comté or Cantal, and also with fine fish, shellfish, or pan-seared veal. Serve at 12 °C.
A contemplative and collectible wine that showcases the majesty and precision of Puligny-Montrachet terroir.
