Carema “Masun” 2017 Cellagrande
The “Masun” Carema 2017 by Cellagrande is an iconic mountain Nebbiolo that tells the story of Carema, a dramatic winegrowing area at the foothills of the Alps in Northern Piedmont. The name “Masun” refers to the local stone houses and the artisanal labor of the heroic viticulture practiced in this rugged landscape.
Made from 100% Picotendro Nebbiolo, the wine is sourced from old vines trained on traditional high pergolas, anchored by stone pillars on narrow terraces built with dry-stone walls. The cool alpine climate and steep terrain contribute to the wine’s elegance and longevity. Fermentation is spontaneous, followed by extended maceration and aging in large oak casks for at least 24 months, then 12 months in bottle before release.
In the glass, it shows a ruby hue with garnet nuances. The nose is complex and inviting, with aromas of ripe cherry, alpine herbs, licorice, graphite and forest floor. On the palate, it’s vibrant and graceful, with firm yet polished tannins, fresh acidity, and a mineral-driven, long-lasting finish. A true Carema DOC red, reflective of its alpine terroir and Cellagrande’s commitment to tradition.
