Canavese Rosso Chèmp 2018 Figliej
The Chèmp Canavese Rosso 2018 by Figliej is born in the wild, pristine nature of Settimo Vittone, less than five kilometers from Carema. The landscape is characterized by steep slopes and small terraced vineyards, where the vines, trained in the traditional pergola system, rest on wooden pilons. The vines, aged between 50 and 100 years, root deeply in morainic bedrock, providing expressive finesse, verticality, structure, and natural austerity to the wines.
Bianca Seardo and Riccardo Prola reclaimed the family vineyards in 2016, working according to certified organic principles, with no chemical treatments and relying on indigenous yeast fermentations in the cellar. The Chèmp comes from a single terrace and vines aged 60-70 years, and it is the result of a blend of more than 25 autochthonous grape varieties, including nebbiolo, uva rara, neretto gentile, barbera, bonarda, croatina, chatus, and cabernet, alongside lesser-known local grapes. This diversity creates a wine of extraordinary depth and complexity.
In the glass, Chèmp displays an intense ruby-violet color, with a broad, dark, complex, and balsamic nose, showing plum, thyme, and mint, along with hints of mature red fruit, chocolate, subtle vegetal notes, and spices. The palate is full-bodied, structured, and tactile, with elegant tannins and a long, persistent finish that balances power with finesse. Chèmp is the most opulent and profound red of the estate, where mineral character, verticality, and noble fruit reveal the austere and authentic character of Canavese.
Ideal as a mountain red, it pairs beautifully with red meats, roasts, braised dishes, or aged cheeses, and is equally enjoyable on its own to savor every nuance of this unique terroir. Chèmp 2018 embodies the philosophy of Figliej: deep, terroir-driven wines that respect the environment while combining tradition, craftsmanship, and modernity without compromise.
