Canavese Nebbiolo “Battito del Maletto” 2021 Monte Maletto
“Battito del Maletto” 2021 is a handcrafted Canavese Nebbiolo by the micro-winery Monte Maletto, founded by Gian Marco Viano in the heart of the Piedmont Alps. The name refers to the emotional connection with the land, and to Monte Maletto itself, the mountain that overlooks the vineyards.
This wine is made entirely from Nebbiolo, cultivated with organic methods on steep, rocky terraces at 600 meters elevation. In these challenging conditions, Monte Maletto practices heroic viticulture, respecting nature and tradition. Vines are trained using the historic “topia” pergola system typical of the Canavese.
Vinification is minimal: 30 days of skin contact and 12 months in old barrels, to allow the purity of fruit and the minerality of the soil to emerge clearly.
In the glass, “Battito del Maletto” shows a pale ruby red hue. The nose offers a refined bouquet of dried flowers, wild strawberries, gentle spices, and a stony note that recalls its alpine origins. On the palate, it’s linear, juicy, and fresh, with silky tannins and a clean, mineral finish. Only 700 bottles were produced—a rare and authentic interpretation of Nebbiolo from Canavese.
