Monte Maletto is a young and exciting winery born in 2015 in Carema, a small alpine village on the border between Piedmont and the Aosta Valley. The project was founded by Gian Marco Viano, a former sommelier with a background in Michelin-starred restaurants, who decided to shift from serving wine to producing it—driven by a deep passion for purity, authenticity, and terroir.

The vineyards of Monte Maletto are located in one of Italy’s most dramatic wine-growing landscapes: steep, terraced slopes supported by dry-stone walls, with high pergola-trained Nebbiolo vines rooted in stony alpine soils. Here, the cool climate and rugged terrain give birth to refined, mineral, mountain Nebbiolo wines with unmistakable character.

The estate follows a strictly organic approach, avoiding chemical inputs and experimenting with natural alternatives like seaweed and essential oils to reduce copper use. Winemaking is minimalist and low-intervention, aimed solely at expressing the essence of the grape and its mountain terroir.

Each bottle from Monte Maletto tells the story of Carema’s heroic viticulture, the hand-built terraces, the alpine breezes, and a winemaker who believes in letting nature speak. With very limited production and growing acclaim, Monte Maletto is emerging as a standout name in the new generation of Carema producers.
