Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2014 Vincent Girardin
The Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru 2014 by Vincent Girardin represents the pinnacle of Côte de Beaune Chardonnay, sourced from vines approximately 50 years old, located in the prestigious vineyards of Chassagne-Montrachet and Puligny-Montrachet. The south and southwest-facing vines grow on Jurassic clay-limestone soils, deep and mineral-rich, which provide structure, complexity, and longevity to the wine.
Vinification is meticulously handcrafted, with careful selection of grapes and slow pneumatic pressing to preserve fruit purity. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentations occur in 228-liter French oak barrels, with 15–20% new oak, followed by 18 months aging on fine lees without stirring, enhancing elegance and finesse. Before bottling, wines from different barrels are blended in stainless steel according to the lunar calendar, with light filtration.
The 2014 vintage presents a complex and persistent bouquet of butter, warm croissant, fern, dried fruits, spices, and honey, while on the palate it is rich, structured, and velvety, with extraordinary length. This Grand Cru pairs beautifully with Bresse chicken with cream, sweetbreads with morels, truffled foie gras, aged cheeses like Comté or Cantal, and also with refined fish or pan-seared veal. Serve at 12 °C.
A collectible and contemplative wine that fully expresses the terroir and excellence of Burgundy.
