Barolo Ravera 2013 - Marziano Abbona
The Barolo Ravera 2013 stands among the finest interpretations of the Nebbiolo grape from Marziano Abbona, embodying the harmony and nobility that have made Ravera one of Novello’s most celebrated crus. Located at around 400 metres above sea level, this vineyard benefits from optimal exposure and calcareous-clay soils, which endow the wine with both structure and elegance. The 36-year-old vines yield limited quantities of grapes—about 65 quintals per hectare—ensuring exceptional concentration and character.
Winemaking remains faithful to tradition. After careful destemming and crushing, fermentation begins spontaneously with indigenous yeasts in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks. Daily pump-overs and an extended maceration under a submerged cap promote the extraction of colour, aroma, and fine tannins. The malolactic fermentation occurs naturally during this stage, enhancing roundness and depth. Once racked off, the wine matures slowly in large oak casks, allowing time to smooth its tannins and integrate its complex flavours. It is then bottled and aged further at a constant 14°C before release.
In the glass, it shows a deep garnet hue with orange reflections. The bouquet opens with rose petals, cherries in spirit, spices, vanilla, and subtle balsamic undertones. On the palate, it reveals majestic structure, refined tannins and great harmony between fruit and freshness. The finish is long, elegant and mineral, leaving a lingering impression of class and balance.
This Barolo Ravera 2013 is a wine of stature and longevity, capable of evolving beautifully over time. Perfect alongside braised meats, game, roasts or aged cheeses, it captures the authentic spirit of the Langhe—where passion, patience, and craftsmanship converge in every bottle.
