Barolo Cerretta DOCG 2016 Ettore Germano
The Barolo Cerretta DOCG by Ettore Germano comes from one of the most celebrated crus in Serralunga d’Alba. The clay and limestone-rich soils, combined with vineyards averaging 50 years in age, yield Nebbiolo wines of exceptional structure, longevity, and elegance. Situated between 350 and 400 meters above sea level and facing South to South-East, these plots offer optimal conditions for producing a Barolo of remarkable depth.
Harvesting takes place in mid-October, entirely by hand in small crates to preserve grape quality. After destemming and gentle crushing, fermentation occurs in vertical stainless-steel tanks with a 40–45 day maceration on the skins. Daily pump-overs and délestage techniques enhance the extraction of color, tannin, and aromatic complexity. Malolactic fermentation follows, and the wine ages for 18–24 months in medium-sized oak casks of various ages, before resting in the bottle for approximately 12 more months.
In the glass, it shows an intense garnet red with subtle orange hues. The bouquet opens with ripe red fruit and vanilla, evolving over time toward refined notes of leather, tobacco, and dark berries. The palate is full-bodied, enveloping, and harmonious, with firm yet polished tannins and a long, persistent, savory finish. Ideal with aged cheeses, rich meat dishes, game, or simply as a contemplative wine.
