ETTORE GERMANO
The Ettore Germano winery, based in Serralunga d’Alba in the heart of the Langhe, is today considered one of the leading names in Piedmont’s fine wine scene. The Germano family’s bond with viticulture dates back to 1856, when they owned 4 hectares of vineyards in the Cerretta area, still the company’s core. For decades, the family sold grapes, until Ettore Germano founded the winery in 1975, bottling wine under his own label. His son Sergio, now at the helm with the support of his wife Elena Bonelli and their children Elia and Maria, has been instrumental in expanding the estate and strengthening its reputation in international markets.
The estate covers about 20 hectares, with vineyards rooted in clay-limestone soils that give depth and longevity to the wines. The varietal range includes native Langhe grapes such as Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and Nascetta, alongside Riesling Renano, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Among its flagship wines are the Barolo, vinified with long macerations and aged in tonneaux or large oak casks, expressing the uniqueness of legendary crus such as Cerretta, Vignarionda, Lazzarito and Prapò. The winery is also renowned for its Alta Langa Metodo Classico sparkling wines, aged at least 30 months on the lees, extending beyond 60 months for the most prestigious labels.
Today, Ettore Germano is acclaimed worldwide for the excellence of its entire range: from powerful and age-worthy Barolo, to elegant and mineral Alta Langa, to the iconic “Hérzu” Langhe DOC Riesling, regarded as one of the finest Italian interpretations of Riesling Renano. Each bottle embodies the Germano family’s philosophy: respect for the land, unwavering quality, and a perfect harmony between tradition and innovation.
