Barolo 2021 Elio Altare
The Barolo 2021 by Elio Altare is one of the most emblematic wines from the Langhe, a symbol of a production philosophy that unites respect for tradition with a spirit of innovation. Made from 100% Nebbiolo grapes sourced from vineyards located in La Morra, Castiglione Falletto, Serralunga d’Alba and Barolo, it captures the diverse nuances of these prestigious terroirs, resulting in a wine of remarkable depth and harmony.
Unlike the local tradition that favors large Slavonian oak casks, Elio Altare has long championed the use of French barriques, aiming to highlight fruit purity and achieve greater balance and drinkability at a younger age. After fermentation in stainless steel with short maceration on the skins (4–5 days), the wine matures for 24 months in used French barriques, then ages further in bottle before release.
In the glass, it displays a bright ruby red color with garnet reflections. The bouquet is refined and layered, offering notes of cherry, raspberry, redcurrant, rose and violet, followed by nuances of pink pepper, cardamom, liquorice and wild herbs. On the palate, it is full-bodied and elegant, with silky tannins, lively freshness and a long, mineral, spicy finish.
The Elio Altare Barolo represents the perfect meeting point between tradition and modernity, with a style that’s both authentic and contemporary. It’s a wine of great personality and longevity, capable of evolving gracefully over time while maintaining its distinctive finesse.
Ideal with red meats, game, braised dishes and aged cheeses, it’s also excellent as a meditation wine. A benchmark Barolo for true enthusiasts, confirming the extraordinary quality level achieved by this iconic La Morra estate year after year.
