Barbera d’Alba “Gisep” 2017 Massolino
The Barbera d’Alba “Gisep” is dedicated to Giuseppe “Gisep” Massolino, the family’s grandfather and a pivotal figure in the estate’s development. More than a name, “Gisep” represents a strong connection with tradition, territory and family roots.
Compared to the winery’s classic Barbera, this cuvée showcases a richer, more structured and long-aging expression of the grape.
Produced only in excellent vintages, the wine comes from a selection of vineyards characterized by calcareous, medium-textured soils that enhance structure and freshness. Fermentation lasts about 10 days in oak vats at around 30°C, followed by an extended aging period: up to 18 months in French oak barriques and large Slavonian oak casks.
This long maturation gives the wine depth, smoothness and remarkable aromatic complexity.
In the glass, it displays an intense, almost impenetrable violet-red color. The nose is elegant, sweet and inviting, with the typical fruity notes of Barbera enriched by spicy and woody nuances.
On the palate, it is full-bodied, concentrated and richly structured, offering sensations typical of great aging wines. The mature grapes and extended barrel aging provide a velvety texture balanced by Barbera’s natural acidity, resulting in a wine of personality and impressive longevity
Excellent with fresh egg pasta with rich sauces, braised meats, stews, Piedmontese bollito misto, and semi-aged cow’s milk cheeses.
