Immersed in the timeless history and landscape of the Langhe, Barbaresco Pajè by Roagna stands out as an icon of artisanal winemaking prestige. The name itself, Pajè, resonates with the ancient Piedmontese language, paying homage to the tradition and the land that bore it. Owned by the venerable Roagna family since 1953, this land represents one of the historical treasures of Barbaresco, a viticultural gem cherished with pride and passion.
Strategically situated in the heart of the commune, the Pajè vineyard is a natural amphitheater bathed in sunlight, facing South and Southwest. The marly limestone soil, with its distinctive active limestone content, imparts a unique minerality and vibrant structure to the wine, bestowing upon Nebbiolo and Dolcetto grapes an unparalleled terroir.
The tertiary origin of this soil, dating back approximately 70 million years, manifests through a geological complexity that translates into unparalleled oenological excellence. The average altitude of 230 meters above sea level blesses the vineyard with a privileged climate, moderated by the breezes of the Tanaro river valley, ideal for vine cultivation. Here, among the rows of fifty-year-old vines, Nebbiolo reigns supreme, carefully selected after a double sorting, while Dolcetto finds its habitat in the lower parts of the vineyard.
The production of this extraordinary wine follows scrupulously the dictates of tradition and nature. Spontaneous fermentation occurs in large wooden vats for about ten days, followed by a submerged cap maceration that extends for at least two months. Aging then takes place in neutral oak barrels for about five years, allowing the wine to develop its complexity and nobility without any external interference.
In this viticultural oasis, the philosophy is one of absolute respect for nature and artisanal production processes. Here, there is no room for the use of chemical or synthetic substances, nor for invasive interventions. Thus, the wine expresses itself in all its purity and authenticity, without being filtered or clarified.
Barbaresco Pajè by Roagna is an oenological gem, with a production limited to just 10,000 bottles per year. Its ruby color with garnet reflections caresses the glass, while on the nose it opens with a refined aroma of violets, red fruits, and delicate tertiary notes, with a subtle hint of spices and toasts. On the palate, it reveals all its intensity and complexity, with a harmonious balance between fruity, ethereal, and tertiary notes. The softness of the tannins, freshness, and sapidity seal a long and persistent finish, leaving an indelible mark on the soul of those who have the privilege of tasting it.
