Volnay 1er Cru Champans 2017 is a red wine produced by Domaine Jean Philippe Fichet. Our Pinot Noir comes from the 1er Cru "En Champans" vineyard, one of the most appreciated in Volnay. This steeply sloping terroir is very calcareous with a light brown soil and is located on the highest end. Towards the bottom, the terroir is more clayey with earth that goes between brown and red. This is a great Volnay cru. The vines of the Domaine de Montille are lined up along the slope and benefit from optimal exposure to the sun. "Champans" comes from the combination of two words, "champ" or "field" and "pans", which means "slope". A Volnay Premier Cru "En Champans" is a wine that generates vibrant red fruits (cherries) and a structure of dense tannins that somehow resist rigidity. On the palate it is broad, structured and of great elegance. This wine tends to open after 7-12 years.
