Tenuta di Monterufoli – Val di Cornia Poggio Miniera 2013
Poggio Miniera 2013 – Val di Cornia DOCG by Tenuta di Monterufoli is an exceptional expression of Tuscan Sangiovese, crafted from vineyards in Monteverdi Marittimo (Pisa province). The estate’s mission is to enhance the value of the Val di Cornia area, a lesser-known yet remarkable terroir where mineral-rich soils, balanced altitude and Mediterranean breezes create ideal growing conditions for Sangiovese grapes.
The wine is made with meticulous care: hand-harvested grapes, fermentation in stainless steel at controlled temperatures with daily pump-overs and délestage, followed by a post-fermentation maceration at 32°C to enhance structure and aromatic depth. It then ages for about one year in oak barrels, followed by an extended bottle aging to reach full complexity and elegance.
In the glass, Poggio Miniera shows an intense ruby-red color. The bouquet is rich and layered, revealing aromas of ripe cherry, plum, sweet spices and balsamic nuances, complemented by hints of tobacco and leather. On the palate, it is full-bodied, smooth and well-structured, with velvety tannins and a vibrant freshness that keeps it balanced. The finish is long and mineral, echoing the stony soils of its origin.
Poggio Miniera is a refined and long-lived red wine, ideal with grilled meats, game, and aged cheeses, or enjoyed on its own as a meditative wine. A masterful interpretation of Sangiovese that reflects both Tuscan excellence and the character of Val di Cornia, crafted by Tenuta di Monterufoli with passion and precision.
