Giovin Re 2018 Michele Satta
Giovin Re 2018 by Michele Satta is a refined Tuscan white wine made entirely from Viognier, a French grape that has found a unique expression in the Mediterranean climate of Bolgheri. First produced in 2000 from an intuitive decision by Michele Satta to vinify the grape separately, this wine showcases the remarkable adaptability of international varieties to the Tuscan coast.
The grapes come from Vignanova vineyard, characterized by sandy and pebbly soils that favor drainage and aromatic concentration. Harvesting occurs in two stages: an early pick to preserve acidity and a later one at full ripeness to enhance aromatic depth. The whole bunches are gently pressed, and the juice is left to settle before fermenting in barrique, concrete tanks and terracotta amphorae. The wine then ages on its fine lees for several months without clarification, maintaining purity and texture.
In the glass, Giovin Re displays a bright golden-yellow hue. The nose reveals expressive aromas of ripe peach, mandarin, honeysuckle, rose petals and vanilla, supported by subtle mineral undertones. On the palate, it is smooth, creamy and well-balanced, offering freshness, salinity and a long, pleasantly bitter finish.
Giovin Re is a complex and structured Viognier, capable of aging gracefully over time. It pairs beautifully with elaborate seafood dishes, shellfish, white meats or aged cheeses. A wine that perfectly merges Tuscan identity and French inspiration, crafted by one of the leading figures of modern Italian winemaking.
