Cuvée “Suzanne” 2024 Adrien Berlioz
Cuvée “Suzanne” 2024 perfectly embodies Adrien Berlioz’s vision of modern Savoie. Made exclusively from Mondeuse, the region’s flagship red grape, it comes from pergola-trained vineyards in Détrier, part of an ambitious project aimed at reviving one of Savoie’s historic vineyard traditions. The vines grow on clay-limestone soils rich in calcareous scree, giving the wine remarkable freshness, mineral tension and remarkable ageing potential.
The vineyards are farmed according to certified organic and Demeter biodynamic principles, with every operation carried out by hand to preserve the natural balance of the ecosystem. Grapes are harvested manually at optimal ripeness before undergoing spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. The wine is aged for approximately 6 to 8 months in seasoned 600-litre demi-muids, without fining or filtration and with only minimal sulphur additions, allowing the purity of the fruit and terroir to shine through.
Brilliant ruby red in colour, the nose unfolds gradually with aromas of wild black berries, blackcurrant, dried tomato, black olive, cracked black pepper, faded rose petals and subtle smoky, balsamic nuances. The palate is elegant, fresh and beautifully textured, driven by silky, powder-fine tannins, vibrant acidity and a long, savoury, mineral finish. This is a refined, terroir-driven Mondeuse that combines precision with depth and promises excellent development over the next decade.
