Sangiovese “Case Basse” 2020 Magnum Soldera
The “Case Basse” Sangiovese 2020 Magnum by Soldera stands among the most revered wines in Italy. Since the 1970s, Gianfranco Soldera shaped the abandoned lands of Case Basse into a thriving ecosystem, based on the belief that true greatness in wine can only arise from a rich, diverse and natural environment. Located southwest of Montalcino at 320 metres above sea level, the 23-hectare estate is entirely dedicated to Sangiovese, cultivated under ideal climatic and pedoclimatic conditions.
Soldera’s philosophy was uncompromising: restoring ancient stone terraces, creating habitats for birds and insects, preserving centuries-old olive trees, planting fruit trees, developing a botanical woodland, and building ponds to promote biodiversity. This living ecosystem is the foundation of the estate’s extraordinary wines.
Viticulture at Case Basse follows strict organic principles, with no herbicides and only manual work among the vines. Fermentation takes place naturally in large wooden vats, without temperature control or added yeasts, embodying a purist approach that lets the terroir speak for itself. Ageing continues for years in large Slavonian oak casks, where the wine slowly gains depth, tension and complexity before being released exclusively through selected wine merchants.
In the glass, the 2020 reveals red flowers, fresh cherry, herbs, subtle spices and earthy undertones. On the palate it is vibrant yet silky, with refined tannins, lively acidity and extraordinary length—an expression of Sangiovese that is both pure and profoundly emotional.
