Sacer Montefalco Sagrantino 2009 – Colpetrone
The Sacer Montefalco Sagrantino 2009 represents decades of expertise and dedication in Colpetrone’s historic Sagrantino vineyards. This Cru is made from carefully hand-selected grapes, cultivated in plots chosen for soil and sun exposure, which impart unique organoleptic qualities and outstanding aging potential. Fermentation takes place under controlled temperatures (24°–28° C) with daily remontage and délestage, followed by a final maceration at 29° C to fully extract color, aromas, and tannins.
After fermentation, the wine is transferred into French oak barrels for weekly batonnage over six months, enhancing body and structure. According to Sagrantino regulations, which require a minimum aging of 37 months, the Sacer continues its maturation in wood for an additional six months, followed by a long rest in steel and bottle for at least 12 years, making it truly unique among long-aging Italian wines.
In the glass, it shows an impenetrable red color with a powerful, complex bouquet, blending ripe red fruit, leather, and subtle spice notes, while the palate reveals structure, elegance, and concentrated tannins. Serve at 18° C in large glasses to fully appreciate its aromas and depth. Perfect with roasted red meats, rich dishes, and aged cheeses, the Sacer Montefalco Sagrantino 2009 exemplifies Colpetrone’s craftsmanship and the potential of Italy’s great long-aging wines.
