Valchyara Winery – The Authentic Voice of Valchiusella

The Valchyara winery is a young wine project founded in 2017, yet rooted in the long viticultural history of Valchiusella, a pristine valley in Piedmont. As early as the late 19th century, Erbaluce and Nebbiolo were cultivated here on steep terraced slopes supported by dry stone walls. Valchyara was established to recover this heritage and bring new life to a unique viticultural landscape, combining artisanal methods with respect for nature.

The vineyards extend over 2.3 hectares at about 450 meters above sea level, within the morainic amphitheatre of Ivrea. Alongside the core varieties Erbaluce and Nebbiolo, the estate also grows Croatina, Freisa and a small parcel of Riesling. The vineyards are farmed according to biodynamic principles, with no pesticides or herbicides, spontaneous grass cover and full preservation of biodiversity. All work is carried out manually, in a heroic viticulture context where every operation requires dedication and care.

In the cellar, the philosophy is one of minimal intervention: spontaneous fermentations, minimal or no added sulfites, no fining or filtering. The sole ingredient is the grape itself, transformed in a way that allows the varieties’ character and the mineral-rich morainic soils to fully express themselves.

The resulting wines stand out for their freshness, purity and authenticity: Erbaluce whites are crisp, mineral and bright, while Nebbiolo reds show finesse and elegance. Each bottle tells the story of the “wild beauty” of Valchiusella, a land of forests, glacial lakes, streams and wildlife that the winery sees itself as a custodian of.

With this philosophy, Valchyara offers a contemporary and sincere interpretation of Piedmontese winemaking, blending past and future through artisanal precision and deep love for its territory.
