LES 13 LUNES

Domaine Les 13 Lunes has rapidly become one of the most compelling names in the modern wine scene of Savoie. Located at the foot of Mont Granier, within the stunning landscapes of the Chartreuse Regional Natural Park, the estate was established in 2016 when Sylvain and Anne took over an old farmhouse and transformed it into a small, independent winery dedicated entirely to expressing the authenticity of the Alpine terroir.

The winery is based in the countryside of Chapareillan, while its vineyards are spread across the villages of Chapareillan, Les Marches and Apremont, all located within a remarkably compact four-kilometre radius. This small scale allows the couple to work every vineyard parcel by hand and to closely monitor each stage of the growing season, adapting their work to the rhythm of nature rather than imposing it.

Today the estate covers only 5.5 hectares, including several exceptionally old vineyard parcels whose exact age has been lost over time. The vines grow at around 450 metres above sea level, predominantly on east-facing slopes that benefit from gentle morning sunlight. The soils originate from the massive landslide of Mont Granier in 1248 and are composed of clay and limestone with complex gravel deposits, creating ideal conditions for producing wines with remarkable freshness, precision and mineral character.

The vineyards are planted mainly with Savoie’s indigenous grape varieties. Jacquère, Altesse and Mondeuse form the heart of the estate’s production, complemented by smaller plantings of Gamay and Veltliner. Rather than pursuing international styles, Sylvain and Anne focus on preserving the identity and diversity of the region’s historic varieties.

From the very beginning, the estate embraced organic farming, later converting fully to biodynamic viticulture, earning the prestigious Demeter certification. Soil health and biodiversity are central to their philosophy. Biodynamic preparations such as horn manure and horn silica, together with herbal infusions of nettle, yarrow, horsetail and valerian, are used to strengthen the vines naturally. Vineyard work is carried out with lightweight machinery to minimise soil compaction, while copper and sulphur are applied only in the smallest necessary quantities.

The same philosophy continues in the cellar, where intervention is deliberately kept to a minimum. Fermentations occur exclusively with indigenous yeasts, without selected yeasts or corrective oenological products. White wines undergo gentle long pressing before fermenting naturally and ageing on fine lees, while the reds are partially fermented with whole clusters, followed by careful maceration and restrained ageing to preserve purity and finesse.

The resulting wines are vibrant reflections of their mountain origins: fresh, mineral, energetic and deeply terroir-driven. Every bottle from Domaine Les 13 Lunes embodies a philosophy built on patience, observation and respect for nature, allowing the vineyards of Savoie to speak with clarity, precision and authenticity.
