Pinot Nero “San Germano” 2017 Marchesi Alfieri
The Marchesi Alfieri “San Germano” 2017 is a distinctive Pinot Noir rooted in a historic Piedmontese winemaking tradition dating back to the 19th century, when Camillo Benso di Cavour and French oenologist Oudart introduced the variety to the estate vineyards. Today, it stands as a refined interpretation that merges Burgundian elegance with local identity.
In the vineyard, quality is achieved through cluster thinning at veraison and low yields of approximately 1 kg per vine. Grapes are hand-harvested at the end of August, ensuring optimal ripeness and careful selection.
In the cellar, attention to detail is paramount. After sorting on a selection table, grapes undergo gentle destemming and crushing. Fermentation takes place in shallow tanks to enhance skin contact, with 10–12 days maceration at controlled temperature (max 28°C). Early daily délestage followed by gentle cap management allows for balanced extraction and refined tannins.
The wine is aged in 500L French oak barriques, adding depth without overpowering the varietal character. In the glass, it shows a deep ruby red color, with aromas of violet and red berries such as blueberry, evolving into more complex notes over time.
On the palate, it is broad, structured and harmonious, with soft yet present tannins and a long, elegant finish. With an aging potential of over 10 years, it appeals to collectors and lovers of fine Pinot Noir.
Ideal with rich pasta dishes, red meats, game and aged cheeses, this wine is crafted for those seeking elegance, depth and longevity.
