Piemonte Merlot “Zino” 2020 Magnum Cascina Christiana
The “Zino” 2020 embodies the bold and visionary spirit of Cascina Christiana. Conceived in 1997 among the vineyards of Nizza Monferrato, it was born from the desire to craft a wine that would break away from local convention — one capable of expressing the elegance and depth of Merlot in a truly Piedmontese way. Over two decades later, it stands as an undisputed benchmark for style, refinement, and personality.
The Merlot grapes come from hillside vineyards cultivated with a single-shoot, seven-bud training system, ensuring low yields and high concentration. Harvested by hand at full ripeness, the grapes undergo fermentation in stainless steel tanks to preserve fruit integrity and varietal freshness. The wine is then aged in French and American oak barriques, where it develops roundness, texture, and aromatic complexity.
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby-red color with vibrant reflections. The nose opens with delicate notes of cherry, blueberry, red currant, and plum, followed by hints of vanilla, moss, and soft spice. With aeration, nuances of toasted oak and sweet tobacco emerge, adding further depth and sophistication.
On the palate, the Piemonte Merlot “Zino” 2020 is rich, full-bodied, and silky, with perfectly integrated tannins and balanced acidity. The mouthfeel is enveloping and warm, leading to a long, persistent finish with echoes of fruit, spice, and wood.
This wine represents the culmination of Cascina Christiana’s vision: to craft a Merlot without compromise, where finesse meets strength, and innovation meets heritage. Its smooth structure and layered complexity make it an ideal companion for roast meats, game dishes, or aged cheeses, but it also shines as a meditation wine, revealing new facets with every sip.
