L’Arbat Erbaluce di Caluso DOCG Passito Riserva 2016 Pozzo
L’Arbat Erbaluce di Caluso DOCG Passito Riserva 2016 is one of the finest interpretations of the historic Erbaluce grape, produced by Pozzo with dedication to tradition and craftsmanship. The name “L’Arbat” comes from the local Piedmontese dialect and refers to the reflection of sunlight, a key factor in the development of the grapes selected for this prestigious passito wine.
Production begins with a meticulous selection of the healthiest and most sun-exposed grape clusters. After harvest, the grapes are placed in wooden crates and left to dry naturally for several months. During this process, water evaporates from the berries, concentrating sugars, flavours and aromatic compounds. Thanks to the naturally thick skin of the Erbaluce grape, the fruit remains perfectly preserved and may develop a small amount of noble rot, further enhancing complexity and aromatic richness.
At the end of February, the dried grapes are gently pressed and undergo a long fermentation process. The resulting wine is then matured in small oak barrels for a minimum of six years, allowing it to gain depth, elegance and extraordinary balance.
The wine displays a bright amber colour with remarkable brilliance. The nose is intense, refined and persistent, offering aromas of honey, dried fruits, candied citrus peel, apricot and delicate spice notes. On the palate it is sweet, harmonious and beautifully structured, with the characteristic acidity of Erbaluce providing freshness and balance, preventing any heaviness.
Traditionally paired with hazelnut cake, dry biscuits, torcetti and paste di meliga, it also performs exceptionally well alongside aged and blue cheeses, where its sweetness creates memorable flavour contrasts. Its complexity, elegance and long finish make it an exceptional meditation wine, perfect for slow enjoyment and special moments.
