Saumur Blanc “L’Insolite” 2021 is one of the flagship wines of Domaine des Roches Neuves, where Thierry Germain has become one of the leading figures of modern Loire winemaking. Through biodynamic farming and an uncompromising respect for terroir, Germain has transformed the estate into one of Saumur’s benchmark producers, crafting wines that combine precision, elegance and exceptional value.
This cuvée is made exclusively from 100% Chenin Blanc grown on clay-limestone soils, a terroir that gives the wine its remarkable mineral tension and ageing potential. The vineyards are farmed according to certified organic and biodynamic principles, encouraging biodiversity and natural vineyard balance. In the cellar, fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts before the wine spends nine months ageing on its fine lees in large oak casks, preserving purity while adding texture and complexity.
Bright straw yellow in colour, the wine opens with an elegant aromatic profile of lemon zest, yellow apple and ripe citrus, complemented by chamomile, white flowers, chalk, toasted almond and delicate hints of honey and sweet spice. Every aroma unfolds naturally, creating a bouquet that is both expressive and beautifully restrained.
The palate perfectly reflects Thierry Germain’s signature style: generous yet vibrant, textured yet remarkably precise. A lively backbone of acidity combines with pronounced salinity to create freshness and remarkable energy, while the long mineral finish highlights the exceptional quality of the terroir.
