Description

Ghemme Magnum 2013 Monsecco

The Ghemme Magnum 2013 by Monsecco is a structured and age-worthy red wine crafted in the heart of Northern Piedmont. It’s made from a traditional blend of Nebbiolo (locally called Spanna) and a touch of Vespolina, sourced from old vineyards planted on morainic, sandy-clay soils — ideal for expressing both elegance and strength.

The 2013 vintage was cool and balanced, allowing for a long ripening season and excellent phenolic maturity. After spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel, the wine was aged for over 40 months in large oak barrels, followed by extended bottle aging in the Magnum format — perfect for a slow and refined evolution.

In the glass, it shows a deep garnet color with a complex nose of ripe red berries, wild herbs, sweet spices, wet earth, and iron-like notes. On the palate, it is layered and persistent, with velvety tannins, bright acidity, and a mineral-driven finish that lingers beautifully.

An exceptional wine for special occasions, ideally paired with braised meats, game dishes, or aged cheeses. The magnum format makes it perfect for long-term cellaring or gifting.

MONSECCO

Monsecco is a historic winery rooted in the northern Piedmont region of Italy, between the Novara hills and the banks of the Sesia River. Founded in 1872 in Gattinara, Monsecco has long been synonymous with age-worthy red wines based on Nebbiolo, a grape that thrives in this unique Alpine foothill terroir.

From the beginning, the estate has focused on low yields, meticulous grape selection, and long aging in large oak barrels, resulting in red wines of great structure, complexity, and longevity. During the 1970s, Monsecco’s wines gained traction among Italy’s finest wine shops and achieved international acclaim through prestigious importers — standing out as a niche label in a time when high-quality Italian reds were still relatively unknown.
