Gevrey-Chambertin Magnum 2021 Sylvie Esmonin
Gevrey-Chambertin 2021 from Domaine Sylvie Esmonin is a refined Pinot Noir produced in the heart of Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits, one of the world’s most prestigious regions for this grape variety. Today the estate is run by Sylvie Esmonin, who continues the family tradition with a philosophy based on vineyard respect, low yields and minimal intervention in the cellar.
The wine is made from old Pinot Noir vines over 60 years old, planted on the classic limestone-clay soils of Gevrey-Chambertin. These mature vines naturally produce lower yields but offer grapes with greater concentration, depth and aromatic complexity.
Winemaking follows a natural approach: fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, allowing the wine to develop a genuine expression of the vineyard and vintage. The wine then matures in French oak barrels for around 18–20 months, with approximately 50% new oak, a choice that adds structure and complexity while preserving the purity of the fruit.
In the glass, Gevrey-Chambertin 2021 shows a bright ruby-red color. The aromatic profile is elegant and layered, revealing sour cherry, redcurrant, blackberry and ripe red fruits, accompanied by subtle spice notes and a delicate touch of oak.
On the palate the wine is balanced between softness and precision, with fine, silky tannins and vibrant acidity that provides freshness and verticality. The finish is long, savory and elegant, perfectly reflecting the character of great Pinot Noir wines from Gevrey-Chambertin.
Sylvie Esmonin’s Gevrey-Chambertin pairs beautifully with red meats, duck, game birds and aged cheeses, but it can also be enjoyed on its own to fully appreciate its aromatic complexity.
