Erbaluce di Caluso Passito DOCG “Venanzia” 2013 – La Masera
The Erbaluce di Caluso Passito DOCG “Venanzia” 2013 by La Masera is a jewel of Piedmontese viticulture, crafted in Settimo Rottaro, within the morainic amphitheatre of Ivrea. This is the cradle of the Erbaluce grape, a white variety that thrives in the sandy-clay, stony soils of the Canavese hills, producing wines with exceptional freshness, minerality, and longevity.
Only the healthiest and most loosely packed Erbaluce clusters are selected and hand-harvested in mid-September, then left to dry naturally in ventilated rooms until February, concentrating sugars and aromas. After careful destemming and pressing, the must undergoes fermentation in French oak barriques at around 17°C.
The wine then ages for 42 months in barriques, followed by 6 months in bottle, achieving a unique balance between sweetness, freshness, and complexity.
Its color is deep golden with amber tones, and the bouquet reveals dried fruit, honey, apricot jam, toasted notes, and almond nuances. On the palate, it is sweet, rich, and enveloping, yet elegant and persistent, with a lingering almond finish.
The La Masera Erbaluce di Caluso Passito “Venanzia” 2013 pairs beautifully with almond and hazelnut desserts, amaretti, or blue cheeses, but it is also perfect as a meditation wine, to be enjoyed slowly while appreciating its depth and harmony — a masterpiece of Canavese tradition.
