Cirò Rosso Classico Superiore 2021 Scala
The Cirò Rosso Classico Superiore 2021 from Scala is a refined expression of the native Gaglioppo grape, representing the balance between Calabrian tradition and modern winemaking. The vineyards, with an average vine age of around 30 years, are located in Cirò Marina, Crotone province, on clay and limestone soils facing south and southeast, providing structure and mineral notes. Grapes are hand-harvested, selecting only the best clusters to ensure high quality.
After harvest, the grapes undergo 15 days of skin maceration, followed by alcoholic fermentation in cement tanks, which preserves freshness, varietal aromas, and complexity. Aging continues in cement for 24–36 months, resulting in a balanced, elegant wine with harmoniously integrated tannins.
In the glass, the wine shows an intense ruby-red color, bright and clear. The nose offers aromas of Mediterranean herbs, red berries, delicate spices, and balsamic hints. On the palate, it is medium-bodied, harmonious, with soft tannins and refreshing acidity that leads to a long and balanced finish. Scala, a family-run winery attentive to its territory, brings out the authentic expression of Gaglioppo, creating a versatile wine that pairs perfectly with meat dishes, roasts, and Mediterranean cuisine.
