SCALA

Azienda Agricola Scala Grandi BottiglieAzienda Agricola Scala, typical Calabrian wines

Scala has a centuries-old tradition that since the seventeenth century is today guided with professional passion by Luigi Scala who has the merit of keeping on the third generation of wine business, with the help of his son Francesco who runs the commercial part of the company and that leads to make its wine known to the palates of all the world. The winery is located in Cirò Marina, a small town in the province of Crotone. The production of wine began in 1949, and has always focused on the highest quality of the grapes from the care of the rows to the work in the cellar in order to create a Calabrian wine that could be distinguished and best represented the territory: thus the white Cirò and the red Cirò are born, which today are the most representative wines of the Calabria region. The bet was precisely to focus on the native vines including Gaglioppo, Magliocco, Nerello, Mantonico and Greco. Among the rows it is also possible to find the cultivation of the international Chardonnay grape. The vineyard consists of 18 hectares of vineyards for a total production of 100,000 bottles per year divided into 6 labels, where the Cirò denomination is obviously the protagonist with the elevation of the Gaglioppo grape in a new more modern interpretation but always linked to its ancient tradition, the rosé version is also very interesting. The cellar is located on flat and hilly soils with a clay-sandy component which allows the production of personality wines without renouncing the specific terroir properties.
