Chinon Les Grézeaux 2021 Bernard Baudry
Chinon Les Grézeaux 2021 is one of the signature wines crafted by Bernard Baudry, one of the leading names in the Chinon appellation and a master of Cabernet Franc in the Loire Valley. This cuvée originates exclusively from the estate’s oldest vineyard, planted around fifty years ago on stony gravel soils resting over clay and silica subsoil, a unique terroir that gives the wine both concentration and remarkable finesse.
The grapes are harvested entirely by hand before undergoing a slow fermentation lasting around fifteen to twenty days in concrete vats. The wine is then aged for fifteen months in unlined concrete tanks, allowing it to mature gently while preserving the purity of the fruit and the character of the vineyard. It is bottled only after two winters following the harvest and without filtration, reflecting Baudry’s minimalist philosophy.
In the glass, it shows a deep ruby colour. The bouquet reveals ripe blackcurrant, raspberry, cherry and wild berries, layered with delicate floral notes of violet, subtle herbal nuances typical of Cabernet Franc, gentle spice and a refined mineral character. The palate is dense yet beautifully polished, supported by silky tannins, bright acidity and a long, precise finish that echoes fresh fruit and wet stone.
Les Grézeaux is a wine built for time. While already harmonious and expressive in its youth, it possesses the balance and structure to evolve gracefully for well over a decade, gaining additional complexity with age. Elegant, authentic and deeply rooted in its terroir, it pairs beautifully with roasted meats, game, mushrooms and mature cheeses, offering a compelling expression of both Chinon and Bernard Baudry’s meticulous craftsmanship.
