The 2024 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc Catarina by Domaine Duseigneur is one of the estate's most distinctive expressions of the Châteauneuf-du-Pape terroir. It comes from a single vineyard in the La Cerise lieu-dit, where Clairette vines average around 40 years of age. The soils are clay-limestone, with rounded pebbles, giving the wine a broad natural structure while preserving a clear mineral character.
Made from 100% Clairette, Catarina offers a refined interpretation of one of the Southern Rhône's traditional white grape varieties. The average yield is limited to around 30 hl/ha, allowing the fruit to retain concentration and definition. After pressing, the juice is settled before spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeasts. One third of the wine is fermented in stainless steel tanks, while the remaining two thirds ferment in new French oak demi-muids. The wine then remains on its fine lees for 8–9 months, with bâtonnage, gradually developing texture, depth and aromatic complexity.
In the glass, the Catarina Blanc 2024 shows a luminous golden hue and a layered aromatic profile. Pear and white peach lead into floral nuances, dried fruit and delicate notes of vanilla and brioche. The oak remains integrated, adding texture rather than dominating the wine. On the palate, it is rich, rounded and velvety, yet held in balance by a refreshing mineral tension. The finish is long and precise, with a subtle spicy nuance that adds definition to the final impression.
Domaine Duseigneur, led by Bernard Duseigneur, approaches its vineyards with particular attention to soil vitality and the individual character of each parcel. The estate's organic and biodynamic philosophy is reflected in a style that seeks balance rather than sheer power. The name Catarina refers to Catherine of Siena, the medieval saint and Doctor of the Church whose role was connected to the return of the papacy from Avignon to Rome.
The result is a Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc made from Clairette with depth, texture and a distinctly Southern Rhône identity. It is a gastronomic white wine, equally compelling for its mineral precision, generous mouthfeel and ability to develop complexity with age.
