Châteauneuf-du-Pape Marie Beurrier 2016 Henri Bonneau
The Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Marie Beurrier by Henri Bonneau is one of the rarest and most sought-after wines from this legendary southern Rhône appellation. Henri Bonneau, a mythical figure in French winemaking, worked with a fiercely traditional approach, crafting wines of immense personality and ageing potential.
Named after Henri’s aunt, the Marie Beurrier cuvée is produced only in exceptional vintages and sits stylistically between the classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape and the iconic Cuvée Celestins. It is made predominantly from old-vine Grenache, with small amounts of other traditional Châteauneuf varieties, grown organically on stony, galets-covered soils.
Fermentation is spontaneous, aging is long and slow in neutral old oak barrels, and no filtration is used. The result is a deeply expressive and layered wine, full of soul and character, capable of ageing gracefully over decades.
On the nose, it offers aromas of ripe red berries, wild herbs, sweet spices, leather, and iron. The palate is silky yet powerful, with great complexity and a lingering, noble finish. A true collector’s wine for lovers of traditional Rhône wines.
