Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2017 Domaine Font de Michelle
The Châteauneuf-du-Pape 2017 Domaine Font de Michelle stands as the flagship wine of the Gonnet family estate, embodying both tradition and innovation. Sourced from the domaine’s finest plots – Montalivet, La Crau, Bois Dauphin and Pied de Baud – it is predominantly made from old-vine Grenache, complemented by Syrah and Mourvèdre.
The fermentation follows a unique “pre-blending” process, where the grape varieties ferment together to achieve harmony right from the start. Grapes are transferred by gravity and partially destemmed, preserving purity and concentration. Ageing in large foudres and demi-muid barrels ensures gentle oxygenation, softening the tannins while enhancing depth and freshness.
The result is a wine of remarkable aromatic intensity, with ripe black fruits, plum, sweet spices and a subtle balsamic touch. On the palate it shows density and power, yet remains finely balanced, with robust tannins and a long, persistent finish. With a cellaring potential of up to twenty years, this Châteauneuf-du-Pape is an exceptional expression of the appellation and a must for collectors.
