Bourgogne Cuvée Jeunesse 2021 Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron
The Bourgogne Cuvée Jeunesse 2021 by Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron offers an elegant and approachable interpretation of Burgundy Pinot Noir, combining fragrant fruit with the precision and finesse associated with the Côte de Nuits. The name “Jeunesse” refers to the wine’s ability to be enjoyed in its youth rather than to the age of the vines, which are mature.
Based in Prémeaux-Prissey, just south of Nuits-Saint-Georges, Domaine Jean-Jacques Confuron is a family estate deeply rooted in the Côte de Nuits. Alain and Sophie Meunier took over the domaine in 1988, and today the family’s work is increasingly carried forward by their son Louis. The estate has long placed particular emphasis on healthy soils and organic viticulture, with some vineyards also cultivated using horses.
This cuvée is made from 100% Pinot Noir grown on clay-limestone soils and harvested by hand. In the cellar, the grapes undergo a short 3–4 day cold maceration before fermentation, with the total fermentation period lasting around 14 days before pressing. After 48 hours of settling, the wine is transferred into French oak barrels for ageing, with 50% new oak.
The wine displays an intense ruby-red colour and opens with expressive aromas of strawberry and cherry, followed by subtle spicy notes. On the palate, its defining character is its fruity, soft and silky texture, supported by refreshing acidity and well-integrated tannins. It is a Bourgogne Rouge that places drinkability and purity of fruit at the forefront while retaining the sense of place that characterises Confuron’s wines. Already enjoyable, it also has the structure to gain further nuance with bottle age.
