The 2022 Bourgogne d'Or Chardonnay by Samuel Billaud is a bright and elegant expression of Burgundy Chardonnay, defined by a careful balance between fruit, freshness and minerality. The cuvée draws its character from vineyards located in two important areas of northern Burgundy: Chablis and the northern Mâconnais.
This combination gives the wine its distinctive personality. The Mâconnais contributes structure and generous fruit, while the influence of Chablis brings tension, freshness and an unmistakable mineral backbone. The result is a Chardonnay that offers genuine regional character while remaining fresh, precise and remarkably versatile at the table.
In the glass, it shows a bright pale yellow colour. The nose develops around delicate floral aromas, followed by notes of white fruit and citrus, all underpinned by a subtle mineral layer that adds depth and definition.
The palate is balanced, fresh and saline, with well-defined fruit and a lively acidity that carries the wine through a long, clean finish. Its fruit profile remains precise rather than opulent, allowing the mineral character and freshness to remain at the forefront.
After careful harvesting, the wine undergoes a short ageing period on fine lees, adding texture and subtle depth while preserving the purity and freshness of the Chardonnay.
