Barolo Ceretta di Perno 2005 Sordo
The Barolo Ceretta di Perno 2005 by Sordo is one of the most authentic and fascinating expressions of the eastern side of Monforte d’Alba, crafted from the historic Ceretta cru, locally known as Srea. Although this vineyard is no longer vinified as a standalone cru today, this vintage stands as a precious testament to the identity of a hillside characterized by steep south-east exposures, cool airflows and complex soils rich in tufa, red earth and rocky sediment. These conditions naturally shape a Nebbiolo style focused on verticality, tension and aromatic finesse.
In the glass, the Barolo displays an intense, bright garnet colour. The nose is expansive and layered: ripe red fruit, cherry in spirit and plum jam blend with notes of liquorice, sweet spices, noble woods and delicate balsamic hints. As the wine evolves, it reveals earthy undertones, mineral nuances and subtle herbal notes that perfectly reflect the character of the Ceretta site.
The palate is deep, warm and structured, supported by firm yet beautifully evolved tannins. The vibrant acidity — a hallmark of Nebbiolo from cooler exposures — provides length, balance and an elegant lift. The finish is long and complex, alternating between mature fruit, spices and a refined savoury touch. This is a traditional, austere and truly age-worthy Barolo, now expressing its full maturity with harmony and remarkable vitality. Excellent with braised meats, game, roasted red meats and aged cheeses.
