Barolo 2018 Mario Marengo
The Barolo 2018 by Mario Marengo is a beautifully crafted expression of La Morra, the Barolo area known for producing some of the most elegant, floral and approachable interpretations of Nebbiolo. The winery, located in Serradenari — one of the highest hills in the appellation — cultivates vineyards in prestigious crus such as Brunate and Bricco delle Viole, following a style that remains strongly rooted in Langhe tradition.
The wine is made from a blend of grapes sourced from different vineyards, a classic method that allows the producer to create a harmonious and balanced cuvée every vintage. The presence of sandy soils in La Morra softens the marls and clays, resulting in Barolos that are more delicate, less tannic and highly aromatic.
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with about 10 days of maceration, followed by 24 months of ageing in barriques, applied with restraint to preserve the purity and finesse of the fruit. The result is a wine defined by balance, silkiness and remarkable drinkability.
In the glass, the wine shows a deep garnet colour with ruby reflections. The bouquet is elegant and inviting, with notes of cherry, red berries, violets and a gentle touch of oak. On the palate, it is smooth, refined and well-balanced, featuring fine-grained tannins and a subtle, delicate mid-palate that leads into a fresh, harmonious and persistent finish.
Marengo’s Barolo 2018 is the perfect choice for those who appreciate the expressive finesse and floral charm typical of La Morra’s Barolos—a wine that is delightful from the start but also capable of evolving gracefully with time.
