Barbera d’Asti “Camp du Rouss” 2021 Magnum di Coppo
The Barbera d’Asti “Camp du Rouss” 2021 Magnum by Coppo embodies the harmony and depth of classic Piedmont winemaking. Its name, meaning “the vineyard of the red-haired man” in local dialect, recalls the first owner of the plot — a tall, red-haired man known in the village for his intimidating presence. Today, the name evokes the warmth and character of a wine that expresses power, grace, and impeccable balance.
Made from 100% Barbera grapes, this red originates from Coppo’s estate vineyards around Canelli, one of Asti’s most prestigious wine-growing areas. The vines are trained using the Guyot system, facing southeast on clay-limestone soils rich in silt, which ensure excellent drainage and mineral complexity. The favorable exposure and microclimate allow the grapes to ripen fully while preserving freshness and aromatic intensity.
Harvesting is done manually, followed by a gentle maceration with light pump-overs to extract color and aromas without over-extraction. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in stainless steel, then the wine is aged for 12 months in French oak barriques — 20% new and 80% second-fill — achieving depth and roundness while maintaining the vibrant freshness of Barbera.
In the glass, “Camp du Rouss” displays a deep ruby-red color with brilliant highlights. The bouquet offers ripe red fruit aromas — cherry, plum, and red currant — alongside refined notes of sweet spices and vanilla. On the palate, it reveals a full, smooth body, supported by delicate tannins and a balanced structure. The finish is long, fruity, and persistent, leaving an impression of elegance and warmth.
Presented in the Magnum format, this Barbera d’Asti develops greater harmony and longevity over time, making it ideal for aging or festive gatherings. “Camp du Rouss” is a testament to Coppo’s winemaking philosophy — wines that blend tradition, precision, and timeless charm.
