Barbaresco “Nubiola” 2007 Pelissero
The Barbaresco “Nubiola” 2007 produced by Pelissero is an authentic interpretation of Nebbiolo from the Barbaresco area. The wine is made from grapes sourced from six small vineyard parcels located across the communes of Treiso, Barbaresco and Neive, each contributing unique soil characteristics and microclimates that enhance the wine’s complexity.
The vineyards are located between 200 and 400 meters above sea level, with exposures ranging from east to south and west, allowing optimal ripening of the grapes. The vines were planted between 1980 and 2004 and are trained using the Guyot system, with a density of approximately 5,000 vines per hectare. The soils vary across the Barbaresco area, including marl and sedimentary formations that provide structure and elegance to the wine.
The name “Nubiola” has deep historical significance. It originates from the famous agricultural treatise “De Ruralium Commodorum” written in 1330 by Pier De’ Crescenzi, where a grape variety called “Nubiola” was described as producing “excellent and wonderfully vinous wine.” Today, that grape is known as Nebbiolo, one of Italy’s most noble varieties.
Vinification takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with regular mechanical punch-downs to extract aromas and tannins. The wine is then aged in oak, combining small barrels and large 50 hl oak casks, carefully balanced according to the vintage. This approach preserves the varietal identity of Nebbiolo while maintaining a classic and traditional style.
In the glass it displays a bright ruby red color. The bouquet is refined and complex, with floral and fruity notes of ripe red berries, accompanied by hints of herbal nuances. On the palate it is smooth, savory and velvety, with a pleasant sense of roundness from fully ripened grapes. The finish is slightly dry and astringent, a hallmark of Nebbiolo that adds depth and persistence.
Barbaresco Nubiola 2007 pairs beautifully with traditional Piedmontese dishes such as roasts, braised meats and red meats, as well as medium to long-aged cheeses. It is also an excellent wine for contemplative tasting moments, thanks to its elegance and complexity.
